Privacy Policy
Last updated:
This policy covers the Calibrate iPhone app and this website (calibrate.parra.io). Calibrate is made by Parra ("we", "us"), the developer listed on the App Store.
The short version
- Your records stay on your iPhone. Calibrate has no account and no server that stores your firearms, sessions, service history, or documents. We cannot see them.
- Two things can leave your device: crash and error reports, sent to Firebase Crashlytics when the app crashes or hits an error, and anything you choose to send us through a feedback form.
- No ads, no tracking. There are no advertising or analytics SDKs in the app, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell or share your data.
- No iCloud sync. Version 1.0 of Calibrate does not sync your data to iCloud or anywhere else.
What stays on your device
Everything you enter is stored in the app's database on your iPhone: firearms and their photos, practice sessions, drills and results, round counts, maintenance tasks and service records, ammunition on hand, classifier runs, NFA details, and documents in the vault.
Serial numbers, NFA tax-stamp numbers, and vault documents are also encrypted on the device, with a key kept in your iPhone's keychain. Revealing one requires Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode.
Your iPhone's own backups (iCloud Backup or a backup to a computer) can include Calibrate's data, the same way they include other apps' data. Those backups are handled by Apple under Apple's terms. Calibrate itself does not upload them.
What leaves your device
Crash and error reports (Firebase Crashlytics)
The App Store version of Calibrate uses Firebase Crashlytics, a Google service, to tell us when the app crashes, and when it hits an error it recovers from, such as a save that fails. A report contains the technical details of the crash or error (where in the code it happened, and the system's error details), a short label for what the app was doing (for example, saving a service record), the app version and build, your device model and iOS version, basic device state such as free memory and disk space, and a random identifier that Crashlytics creates for this installation of the app.
Calibrate does not put your firearm records, serial numbers, documents, or anything else you typed into these reports. We use them only to find and fix bugs. Google processes this data for us and keeps reports for 90 days. See Firebase's privacy information.
Feedback you send us
Only if you choose to use one of these forms:
- Send Feedback, in the app's Settings, sends the category you pick, your message, your email address if you enter one, and the app version and build, iOS version, device model, and language and region setting, so we can reproduce problems.
- The contact form on our support page sends the category, your message, and your email address if you enter one.
Both are delivered through this website to RevenueHog, the feedback inbox we use, and may also be posted to our team's internal chat so we see them quickly. We use feedback only to answer you and to improve Calibrate. We keep it for as long as we need it for that, and delete it sooner if you ask. Please do not put serial numbers or other sensitive details in a feedback message.
Purchases
Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple. We never see your payment details, your name, or your Apple Account. The app checks whether you have Calibrate Pro using Apple's StoreKit on your device. Apple gives us sales and subscription reports (for example, which plan was bought, in which country, and whether it renewed) that do not identify you.
This website
- No cookies, analytics, or ads. The site does not set cookies or load analytics or advertising scripts.
- Hosting. The site runs on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical request data such as your IP address and browser type to deliver and protect the site. Our request logs are kept for up to a week for debugging. The contact form uses your IP address, only in the moment, to limit how many messages can be sent in a minute.
- App Store links. Links to the App Store carry a campaign code so that Apple can show us, in aggregate, how many downloads came from this site. We do not learn who you are.
Permissions the app asks for
- Face ID. To reveal encrypted fields and vault documents, and to unlock Calibrate if you turn the app lock on. iOS handles the check; Calibrate never receives your face or fingerprint data.
- Notifications. Only if you turn on maintenance reminders. Reminders are scheduled on your iPhone.
Photos and documents come in through Apple's photo picker and Files picker, so Calibrate only receives the items you choose and never has access to the rest of your library. Calibrate does not use your location, contacts, camera, microphone, or Bluetooth.
What we don't do
- We don't require or offer an account.
- We don't show ads or use advertising networks.
- We don't track you across apps or websites, and the app never asks to.
- We don't sell, rent, or share your personal data for advertising.
- We don't sync your records to any server, including iCloud, in version 1.0.
Your choices
- Export. Settings → Data → Export backup saves all of your records to a file you control.
- Delete. Delete individual records in the app, or delete everything by deleting the app from your iPhone. Also delete any backup files you exported. We hold no copy to delete.
- Feedback and crash data. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you, which in practice means feedback messages and crash and error reports. Ask through the support page, using the email address you sent feedback from if you have one, and we will respond within 30 days.
Children
Calibrate is rated 17+ on the App Store and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to this policy
If what Calibrate collects changes, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change ships.
