How can we help?

Answers to the common questions are below. If yours isn't here, send us a message. In the app, you can also use Settings → Send Feedback.

Getting started

How do I add my first firearm?

Open the Safe tab and tap the + button. Enter the type, make, model, and caliber, and add a photo if you like. Serial and NFA tax-stamp numbers are optional and are encrypted on your iPhone as soon as you save.

When you add a firearm, Calibrate can set up a suggested starting maintenance schedule for that type of firearm. You can edit or remove any task, or add your own.

How do I log a practice session?

Open the Practice tab and start a session. Pick the firearm and, if you track ammunition under Ammo inventory (in the More menu at the top of the Safe tab), the lot you are shooting. Log drills from the built-in library or your own, recording time, splits, hits, score, or group size.

When you finish, the session's rounds are added to that firearm's round count and deducted from the ammo lot you picked. Personal bests are flagged automatically.

How do maintenance reminders work?

Each maintenance task can come due after a number of rounds, after a period of time, or both. The Maintenance tab lists what is overdue or coming due.

Turn on Settings > Notifications > Maintenance reminders to also get notifications: one on the morning a date-based task is due (and one more if it goes overdue), and one when logged rounds bring a round-based task close to due or past it. Reminders are scheduled on your iPhone.

If you archive a task, it stops reminding you. Archived tasks stay under the Archived filter in the Maintenance tab, and you can restore them.

How does the app lock work?

Revealing a serial number, tax-stamp number, or vault document always asks for Face ID, Touch ID, or your iPhone passcode, whether or not the lock is on.

The app lock is optional. Turn it on in Settings > Privacy & Lock and Calibrate also asks when it opens, and Lock Calibrate now locks it straight away. While the lock is on, maintenance notifications do not name the firearm or the task.

Both rely on your device passcode, so set one in iPhone Settings first. Without a passcode there is nothing for Calibrate to check against.

Backups and export

How do I back up my data?

Go to Settings > Data > Export backup. Calibrate saves every record into one file that you can keep in Files, AirDrop to a computer, or store wherever you like.

Calibrate does not back up on its own and does not sync to iCloud in this version, so export a backup from time to time. Your iPhone's own iCloud or computer backup can also include Calibrate's data.

How do I restore a backup or move to a new iPhone?

Go to Settings > Data > Import backup and choose the file. Merge adds anything that is not already on the device. Replace deletes what is on the device first, then restores the backup.

Serial numbers, NFA tax-stamp numbers, and vault documents are encrypted with a key kept in your iPhone's keychain, and that key is not part of the backup file. Everything else restores on any iPhone, but those encrypted fields may not be readable on a different device. Keep your original paperwork.

How do I export the Practice + Service Log PDF?

Open a firearm and choose Export practice + service log from the menu at the top of the screen. The PDF covers the firearm's details, round count, personal bests, service records, and practice sessions. Serial and stamp numbers are hidden unless you choose to reveal them, which asks for Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode first. A CSV export is available from the same screen. Both are part of Calibrate Pro.

Purchases and subscriptions

What does Calibrate Pro cost?

Calibrate is free for up to 2 firearms, 5 drills, and 20 service records per firearm, with no time limit. Calibrate Pro is $19.99 a year, with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. The App Store shows the price in your currency before you confirm, and Apple handles the payment.

What can I do without paying?

The free plan covers 2 firearms, 5 drills, and 20 service records per firearm, with no time limit. Practice sessions, drill results, round counts, personal-best flags, maintenance tasks and reminders, ammo inventory, encrypted serials and NFA details, and backup export and import all work on it.

Calibrate Pro removes those limits and adds skill-progress charts, the Practice + Service Log PDF and CSV export, the encrypted document vault, and classifier tracking.

How do I restore my purchase?

In Calibrate, go to Settings > Subscription > Restore purchases. Make sure your iPhone is signed in to the same Apple Account you used to subscribe.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Apple manages subscriptions, so cancel on your iPhone: open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose Calibrate, and tap Cancel Subscription. You keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for. If you started a free trial, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends to avoid being charged. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. You can request one from Apple.

Data and privacy

Where is my data stored?

On your iPhone. Calibrate has no account and no server that stores your records, and it does not sync to iCloud in this version. Serial numbers, NFA tax-stamp numbers, and vault documents are also encrypted on the device.

Does anything leave my iPhone?

Two things. If the app crashes, or hits an error it recovers from (such as a save that fails), a report goes to Firebase Crashlytics so we can fix the bug. It contains technical details about the error and your device, not your records. And if you send feedback, we receive what you typed plus your app version, iOS version, device model, and language setting. There are no ads and no tracking.

Deleting your data

How do I delete my data?

Firearms, practice sessions, drill results, drills, maintenance tasks, service records, ammo lots, classifier runs, and documents can each be deleted in the app, from their own screens. To delete everything, delete Calibrate from your iPhone, then delete any backup files you exported. We hold no copy of your records, so there is nothing to delete on our side.

How do I delete feedback I sent?
